1. Review process
The Journal of Migration Studies ensures the quality of the published articles by means of a multi-stage reviewing procedure.
Essays:
Submitted essays will be reviewed and evaluated by the editors. If they are considered for publication, the authors will be asked to submit an anonymized version that has two pass two external reviews (double-blind peer review). The editors finally decide on the publication of the articles on the basis of the expert opinions. Essays should not exceed a length of 65,000 characters (including spaces).
Discussion papers:
Texts that have been submitted as shorter discussion papers are commented and evaluated by the editors. Discussion cpapers are not subject to review by external experts. Discussion papers should not exceed a length of 35,000 characters (including spaces).

3. Online first
In order to speed up the publication of articles in the Journal of Migration Studies, we use the possibilities of online first publication. Under the heading ›Online First Articles‹ of the journal's website, you find current articles published before the next full issue is published. Articles published online first have gone through the entire review process and are fully citable. They have a unique international identification with the Digital Object Identifier (DOI). In the later final version, which is published under the heading ›Current Issue‹ on the journal’s website, only the page number is added along the position of the article in the issue, while the content of the article remains unchanged.
4. Special Issues
Special issues can be edited by guest editors in cooperation with the editors of the journal. Special issues deal with a clearly defined subject. The contributions should be related to each other and illuminate the topic from different perspectives. The consideration of different disciplinary approaches is desirable.
