Ein »unfaßbar kompliziertes« Problem. Rassismus als Gegenstand von Konflikten im Kontext von Geflüchteten-Solidarität in der Bundesrepublik der 1980er Jahre

Abstract

In den 1980er Jahren formierte sich in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland ein breiter Aktivismus in Solidarität mit Geflüchteten, der sich gegen das zunehmend migrations- und asylfeindliche Klima engagierte. Dabei wurden auch unterschiedliche Deutungen von Rassismus als Analysegegenstand ebenso wie als Problem der linken sozialen Bewegungen Gegenstand der Auseinandersetzung. Der Aufsatz arbeitet auf der Grundlage von bisher weitgehend unberücksichtigtem Archivmaterial zwei unterschiedliche Rassismusverständnisse heraus, die in diesem Bewegungskontext diskutiert wurden, und zeigt, wie diese Kontroversen sowohl theoretisch als auch praktisch die aufkeimende antirassistische Bewegung prägten. Diese Kontroversen legten den Grundstein für spätere Verständnisse des komplexen Verhältnisses von Rassismus und Solidarität, das sowohl in bewegungspolitischen als auch akademischen Debatten in Deutschland bis heute von Bedeutung ist.

An »Incredibly Complicated« Problem. Racism as a Subject of Conflict in the Context of Refugee Solidarity in the Federal Republic of Germany in the 1980s

In the 1980s, a broad activism in solidarity with refugees emerged in the Federal Republic of Germany, fighting against an increasingly antiimmigrant and anti-asylum climate. In this context, different interpretations of racism as a subject of analysis and as a problem for left-wing social movements were also discussed. Drawing on hitherto largely untapped archival material, the article analyses two different understandings of racism that were debated in this movement context and shows how these controversies shaped the burgeoning anti-racist movement in both theory and practice. These debates laid the foundations for later understandings of the complex relationship between racism and solidarity, which is still important in both political movement and academic debates in Germany today.
